Legion Queen

Next to Guiron, this is the 2nd kaiju for a collaboration with DopePope redesigning Gamera kaiju in our styles.
Now Legion is my favorite Gamera Kaiju and 2nd favorite creature desig. Everything about the design is so perfect and just a masterpiece of Japanese design.

Now for the overall design, I pretty much stay faithful to the original since it’s perfect and doesn’t need a crazy redesign. My design approach was figuring out how I can make Legion more mobile and be able to move around.
So I used lots of crabs and arachnids as my reference for the legs and beefing them up so they can support Legion’s weight.

I also used a lot of the bug designs from StarShip Troopers in order to have the alien look for legion and not having the design to animalistic. With the addition of claws for her to crab and attack Gamera. I also added mantis shrimp claws that’ll be used as a supercharged sealing that’ll knock Gamera and be able to crack his chest. Finally I also used geisha hairstyles, empress crowns and fashion as inspiration so I can capture the queen look for legion.
This sculpt was quite a marathon and I’m very happy with the results haha.
