Kjartan, The Skar King Concept Art

Here’s my own original take on Skar King. Lots of you guys wanted to see my take on Skar King after Shimo. So for my take, I was thinking the complete opposite of Kong. Instead of a red chimpanzee and orangutan, I decided to use Baboons and Mandrills for my Skar King design. An ape kaiju vs a monkey kaiju haha. So basically Kong a gorilla vs Kjartan a baboon/mandrill kaiju.

So I did use the original as reference but adding more muscle mass instead of skinny and kept the red fur because it’s still cool and different from Kong. I used mandrill for the face and gelada baboons as my main animal for the design. We always see chimpanzees, bonobos and gorilla type creatures but very rarely a mandrill or baboon especially for kaiju films. It would’ve been super cool to watch Kong fight a mandrill type monster, a complete opposite of him. Then I also added some elements of grizzly bear and lion for the face to add that powerful and fierce look.

I personally don’t like the name Skar King, it should be more of a title than a name. So I gave the name Kjartan instead of Skar King.

Now, the blue stuff on his arms and legs is suppose to represent the hallow earth blue energy. For my take and story, maybe because Kjartan has been living down in the hallow earth for so long he was able to harness it into his own body giving him some sort of immortality and mutation where he evolved. Now he depends on it for his survival giving him lighting and energy powers instead of a bone whip.
He’ll also behave more animalistic and barbaric than Kong who thinks like a human, again going opposites.
Then I made him a bit taller than Kong and Godzilla since he looks much more shorter in the actual film.
