Gojira Rebirth
The overall design is actually inspired by the concept for the original 1954 Godzilla film with a blend of Minus One Goji proportions and design elements.
I always loved the 1954 concept art it’s very interesting yet creepy. The face is also has some Oni and Hayan mask inspiration.

I wanted for a very classic Toho Godzilla with the Showa suit elements. I really enjoyed going back to this sculpt and refining it. The design is simple and not to extreme while going back to Toho’s roots.
Now for my design I was going for something that resembled more of the 54 Godzilla but a modern take on it since the one we’ll see resembles more of the Heisei Godzilla. I wanted my Godzilla to have more of an Oni, devilish and demonic look. I stayed away from anything that was similar to Shin Godzilla or anything that look mutated and gross.

The whole design base is similar to Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus One design. It’s mainly the face and dorsal fins that I changed. Some of the body texture and details are a bit different but similar to the one we’ll be seeing. The face is a mix of 54, 64, GMK, and Final Wars Goji. I mainly used the original 54 concept art as reference since the early designs for 54 Goji are really creepy and disturbing. The dorsal fins are a mix of GMk and 54 Goji’s fins. I noticed on Godzilla Minus One that he has a bit of brownish color on his skin which I actually like and it’s different so I decide to make my Godzilla mix of browns and greens. I made his dorsal fins a mix of a bone color and red just to resemble the pain that this Godzilla is going through after being affected by the atomic bomb.
