Feudal Japan Manda Redesign Concept

Here’s my redesign for Feudal Japan Manda. Not much to talk about in terms of the design. I kept Manda’s design as simple as I could especially since he’s pretty much an eastern dragon kaiju. I used Final Wars Manda as inspiration since it’s my favorite Manda design. It was important that I made sure that Manda’s design screamed as a peaceful dragon where as Dagahra, Emperor and Grand Keizer Ghidorah’s design shows they are the destructive dragons.

I used koi fish and aquatic features as reference since Manda is the aquatic dragon and decided to make him blue to show him as a peaceful dragon as possible. For the head I did made the snout much more narrow and longer to make him a bit different from Ghidorah, then I used foxes and wolves as inspiration since most eastern dragons are usually depicted as serpent like foxes or wolves. Definitely one of my favorite dragon sculpts and would love to see Manda make an appearance in a future Toho film.
